Machete as a weapon

Textually, the machete functions almost like the sword in the epic of Old Europe.  It is mainly for clearing brush out of the way of wilderness travelers and the like.

Though first used as an agricultural tool, particularly by Spanish settlers in the Americas, the machete with its broad blade, is well adapted to military use in jungle. Very similar in shape and length to a cutlass, the machete also had a broad blade with a very thin, sharp cutting edge.

It is however much less elegant in design than the cutlass, and is sometimes referred to as the ‘poor man’s sword’. The machete comes in various lengths, thicknesses and sizes. It is truly a versatile weapon.

A machete is a personal weapon and a person using one had to be extremely familiar with it; the weight and the way it handled. Although smaller than a short sword, the machete is an effective primary weapon and made all more deadly because of it’s used as a ranged weapon.
